About me

I am an Ottawa based, professional artist who works primarily in the traditional medium of oil paint on wood panel.  My practice has evolved over the years but has always combined an interest in history, allegory and vivid colour to create arresting and emotive images.  I loosely subscribe to the idea of Meta-Modernism, and endeavour to create art that is both critical, yet in another sense, romantic and affective.

Technically speaking, my strongest work is as a painter of urban and natural scenes.  These works often incorporate a sense of the surreal and the uncanny, or the personal and the introspective.  I am most at home with oils, although I am also proficient in various drawing mediums, acrylics, ink and in watercolour.

I Began my studies in art taking classes as a member of the Ottawa School of art; with numerous courses in life drawing and acrylic painting. Subsequently I began taking a series of courses under the tutelage of the wonderful and encouraging Ottawa based artist Bhatboy. With his help and guidance I was able to establish a body of work which was instrumental in my acceptance to formal art studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. You can see Bhatboy's wonderful work at www.bhatboy.com

In 2018, I graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in the Fine Arts with a Minor in Art History.  During my tenure at NSCAD, I was twice awarded the Robert Pope Foundation Undergraduate Award, as well as the Doris Evelyne Dyke Teasdale Scholarship.

In addition to my Fine Arts training, I also hold a First-Class Honors B.A in Film Studies, with a minor in History from Carleton University.  This degree provided me with invaluable academic experience and insight into the study of visual media that continues to inform my work.

Currently I am dividing my time between my own professional practice, my day job, and various commissioned work.  Please note I am happy to discuss potential commissions and answer any questions you may have.
